11am Second Hour

Upstairs: Coffee Hour: Seeking Faith and Understanding Pastor Craig

Our series, What Is the Church For? continues on November 1 with Week 3, Faith Seeking Understanding, led by interim pastor Craig Frere.

This week we will ask what Christian faith teaches us the church is. Drawing especially on Exodus 19, 1 Peter 2, and Ephesians 4, we will explore several convictions about the church: that it is called by God and belongs to Christ; that it is a people, not merely an institution; that its gifts are given for the maturity of the whole body; and that discipleship and holiness take visible shape in witness, service, peace, care, and love.

Through several biblical images of the church and time for conversation together, we will continue considering our larger question: Why does God call a people, and what is that people called to be and do in the world?

Please join us for Second Hour following worship.

Camp Sponsorship Fundraiser Update

On Sunday October 11th, Valleyview s youth celebrated the spirit of camp during worship and shared their recent camp experiences to help remind us of the great value of our Camp Sponsorship Fund in supporting children and youth to attend overnight Mennonite summer camps. In 2026, our congregation supported 14 children and youth from Valleyview attending Silver Lake Mennonite Camp and Ontario Mennonite Music Camp. It is important to replenish the fund for 2027 sponsorships, with a minimum goal of $2,000 needed.

A total $2,685.00 was raised, which meets our goal for this year. Thank you!

Missions & Social Concerns: SEMILLA

In 2026, Valleyview started a relationship with SEMILLA Latin American Anabaptist Seminary, based in Guatemala City, which offers theological and leadership training to pastors and church leaders through curated in-person, hybrid, and long-distance programming. The MC Canada Witness Support Network accompanies SEMILLA in its mission to equip its students to live out peace and justice in their contexts.

As you may recall, David Janzen and Esther Kern participated in one of Semilla's Learning Tours in the fall of 2025. Also, Valleyview added Semilla to its Mennonite Church Witness Program sponsorships earlier this year.

To receive a newsletter about SEMILLA or to donate, email Danika Gingerich (MC Canada Liaison for Guatemala) at danikawarkentin@gmail.com. Or feel free to contact David Janzen at davidjanzen51@gmail.com or Esther Kern at eagle.spirit@rogers.com.
