Revelations Series: Letters to the Seven Churches aligned with Parables from Luke

We begin a series of services looking at two chapters of the biblical book Revelations, written around 96 CE, more than 50 or 60 years after Jesus' death. The author was probably a Christian from Ephesus known as "John the Elder." According to the Book, this John was on the island of Patmos, not far from the coast of Asia Minor. Each week we will look at one of the letters which author John said was revealed to him by Jesus and think about the letter in the context of one of Luke s parables.

Congregational Meeting Notice: Sunday January 26th Second Hour

And New AGM Schedule 2025

Greetings Valleyview congregation and members,

The Board of Directors, the Church Council Chair, and the Pastor have been discussing revised timelines for the Annual General Meeting of Valleyview Mennonite Church. In light of the new requirements for externally audited financials by our accountant: Famme and Co, in the form of a Review Engagement as directed at our September 2024 congregational meeting, we have decided on the following schedule for 2025.

Audited Financial Statements will not be available before the end of March from the external accountants and as a result, we will follow the timelines below for 2025:

  1. The 2025 Proposed Church budget will be distributed in the first week of January. Pledges are requested by Sunday, January 19th. We are looking for pledges of 80% pledged.

  1. Congregational Meeting of the membership will occur on Sunday, January 26th during the second hour (after worship):
    1. We will approve the 2025 Budget by membership motion at this meeting.
    2. Review Capital Improvement Projects.
    3. Ask the congregation to affirm/adjust the board s recommended allocation on the 2024 surplus. This is required before the external auditors start their review.

  1. AGM Report Booklets with Audited Financials will be distributed by the third week in March along with all committee reports.

  1. On Saturday, April 12th there will be the Annual General Meeting of Valleyview Mennonite Church. This will combine the previously held February AGM and the May Council-led congregational meeting in one meeting followed by a fellowship lunch/activity.
    1. This meeting will encompass both Board and Church Council topics.
    2. Approval of Audited Financials.
    3. Election of Directors and Approval of Slate of Volunteers.
    4. Affirmation or adjustments to the 2025 Budget (if required).
    5. Any other business.

This revised schedule will be evaluated and adjusted with membership feedback for 2026.

We hope everyone can join us for the congregational meeting in January and the AGM in April!

Blessings,

Board of Directors
